About Us

We are a group run with the help of the Cambridge Buddhist Centre. The group was started in 2008 as a drop-in class. Since then, it has grown and offers a range of Buddhist practices.

We are a friendly and welcoming group of people, drawn together by our wish to explore Buddhism and meditate together. You do not need to consider yourself a Buddhist to join us - we are made up of people from all sorts of different cultures and backgrounds, and the group is relevant to anyone looking for personal growth and meaning. You do not need to have any experience of meditation to come along. Learning meditation is a life-long experience, so we all have to start somewhere! The evening is always structured (includes a meditation and discussion on a Buddhist teaching) so that new people will be given the support they need to join in.

We offer study, group discussions and meditation and often have a talk from Anantamati, invited Order Members or members of the team. We also encourage participation from other members of the Sangha (community) in giving short talks about their practice. In the instances where Sangha members give talks, readings or lead a meditation either Anantamati or a member of the team meet up with the member to discuss content and to plan together; we do aim to keep what we offer in line with Triratana. We have ‘Sharing Inspiration evenings’  from time to time where members bring a piece of art work , talk about what inspires their dharma practice or presentation a poem or reading.

Several of our members are training for ordination and others are attending mitra study in Cambridge ('mitras' or 'friends' are those are have made an initial first commitment to the order). We do not have the resources to offer mitra study in Peterborough at present.

We aim to run monthly going deeper sessions or day retreats, sometimes these are for the Peterborough Sangha and sometimes other outlying groups are invited to join us too.

There is a very strong sense of Sangha in our group. Many friendships have been established and there is a real drive to support one another’s spiritual development. We often laugh together too!

We are also on Facebook and Meet-up.

The Team

Anantamati, a female order member supports the group. In addition to that the team is made up of some of the groups mitras; Brenda, David, Jon, Kay, Mark and Sarah. We meet monthly to discuss and plan the activities of the group.
