Sangha Night
Our usual meeting place is The Quaker/Friends Meeting House, 21 Thorpe Road, Peterborough, PE3 6AB.
Here's what happening over the next few weeks;
- Tuesday 30th December; No meeting due to the holiday season
- Tuesday 6th January; We have an evening looking at our intentions for the year led by Anantamati
- Tuesday 13th January; No meeting as it’s the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
- Tuesday 20th January; We will have a practice evening which will include the use of the downstairs garden room for those who’d like more of a led meditation in the first half of the evening.
- Tuesday 27th January; this evening’s focus is yet to be decided.
Please note that we lock the front door at 7pm for security reasons.
The class begins with an introduction to the evening and usually a short breathing space. The first half of the evening we usually share and discuss a teaching of the Buddha or our Buddhist practice. After a short break the second half is devoted more to meditation. The instruction given is tailored to the needs of those attending, so if you are new to meditation we can offer full instruction and guidance, whereas if you are an old hand you can have the freedom to explore your meditation practise at your own pace. Sometimes during this section we look more closely at particular aspects of meditation or engage with some Buddhist ritual. We usually end the evening with a mantra.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a Buddhist?
You do not need to consider yourself a Buddhist to join us - we are made up of people from all sorts of different cultures and backgrounds, and the group is relevant to anyone looking for personal growth and meaning.
Do I need to have any meditation experience?
You do not need to have any experience of meditation to come along. Learning meditation is a life-long experience, so we all have to start somewhere! The evening is always structured so that new people will be given the support they need to join in.
How much does the class cost?
Our classes run on donations. We suggest £7 although you are free to donate whatever you want and we’d rather you come along even if you aren’t able to make a donation.
